Take Action

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT A STRONG BRITAIN IN A STRONG EUROPE
A PRO EUROPA GUIDE TO ACTION

Above all:  be active!

Pro Europa is a platform for sharing ideas and perspectives on the EU future and the EU-UK relationship, especially in light of the upcoming referendum.  Pro Europa organises and supports many events in Brussels and we invite you as a minimum to participate in these as both guests and speakers. You can learn much and contribute even more! See: http://proeuropa.org.uk/events/

1. Write articles for Pro Europa social media outlets

If you have an observation, argument or analysis that you would like to contribute to enrich our debate and to see it published on the Pro Europa website and in social media, you are very welcome to do so. Submissions should be written thoughtfully, in good English and not plagiarised.

Alternatively, if you would like to suggest an interesting previously published article for us to post on the Pro Europa website or a feature from another publisher, send it through to us.  Please indicate the source and also include: your name, affiliation or organisation (maybe mention ‘writing in a personal capacity’), a very short bio, links to personal website/FB-Twitter pages, a date when the article was produced, and hashtags/keywords. Submissions will be reviewed by the editorial team. Please email your submission to: office@proeuropa.org.uk.

2. Provide accurate information about what the EU does and doesn’t do

Pro Europa members should keep up-to-date with EU and UK/EU news so that we are in a position to defend the EU in the UK, and the UK in Brussels, whenever we are called to do so (with family, friends, colleagues, etc). Write to the UK media

3. Foster branches of pro-European organisations back home in the towns, cities and regions where we come from and where we still have links

Pro Europa members can take up contact with organisations we know (for example, your local branch of the European Movement, special interest groups, local political parties and groupings, our old school, faith groups…..). We can offer our help in informing the organisation about EU issues that affect them as well as encouraging them to take a pro-EU stance. We can offer to write material for their own use, we can offer to speak at their events, and we can help them with any campaigning they choose to do. Think creatively and take action!

4. Reach out to British communities in other parts of Europe

Pro Europa members may know groups of UK citizens or their representatives in other parts of the world. We can offer to brief them on UK/EU issues, encourage them to take a pro-UK in the EU stance in their discussions with colleagues and friends, and encourage them to speak positively about the UK in the EU when they are in the UK.  The May 2015 Irish referendum showed the power that the disenfranchised diaspora had in encouraging a “yes” vote in the country.

5. Encourage mainstream UK politicians to participate more actively in the Europe debate

Pro Europa members could write to their (former) MP to ask them about their views on the EU, and encourage them to take a pro stance in the run-up to a referendum.

6. Encourage EU politicians who strongly support the UK remaining in the EU to speak out and join the debate

Pro Europa members should take up contact with any EU politicians they have dealings with, offer to brief them on the UK and EU, and encourage them to take every opportunity to support the UK remaining in the EU.

7. Offer to provide support to Pro Europa's Steering Group

As the referendum gets nearer we may well need help from Pro Europa members to organise events, to produce written material, to do graphic designing, to produce paper-based material, speak at public meetings in the UK, do door-to-door campaigning in the UK…….

8. Continue to debate

We invite you to join our internal Yammer professional social network to enhance communication with other Pro Europa members by creating thematic groups on EU-UK issues, sharing updates and current work, holding live discussions, planning events, and storing facts and figures. To join the Yammer network please email to office@proeuropa.org.uk.

"like" Pro Europa’s Facebook page and invite your Facebook friends to do the same. Visit the page on a regular basis and like, share or comment on some of the posts. Take the next step and share such quotes and facts on your own Facebook page. Post other pro-European material on your own social media or forward it to friends – you can sign up for excellent updates from several pro-European organisations, or create your own materials.

9. Join the Twitterati!

Set up a twitter account, follow pro-European tweeters and retweet the ones you like or do your own pro-European tweets. Or rebut anti-European tweeters.

Support the ‘I am Pro Europa’ website – ask your friends on Facebook or contacts on LinkedIn to submit an entry. Share your entry on Facebook and tweet it.

10. Take every opportunity to speak out, clarify, correct, support…..

PLEASE CONTACT MEMBERS OF OUR STEERING GROUP IF YOU HAVE IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS TO HELP US ACHIEVE OUR AIM: A STRONG UK IN A STRONG EU.
